I’ve been sorting pictures from Italy, Getting them off my phone and camera, changing the names by date.
In the olden days, we’d get our film developed, take out all the good pictures, show thrm around, maybe put them in a photo album. The not so good pictures would be left in the envelope and eventually end up in a trunk in the attic or basement, or the garbage.
Nowadays, the not so good pics get deleted, the ok pictures get saved on a disc somewhere, the favorites get posted online. It seems worse, like the pictures don’t physically exist. If humanity ever descends back to the dark ages, and I’m sure it will, the digital age of humans will be lost. For example, do you have data on 3.5 inch discs in your closet? I do. Do you have a device that can read a 3.5 inch disc? I don’t. VHS tapes? We’re losing data even in our lifetimes.
In many ways, the old way was better. Hard copies.
Yesterday I got an email about my blog. This student at the University of Southern California. I’m not going to put his name here without permission, but he is studying how people present themselves on the web, and how machines can utilize the knowledge encoded in these presentations. Sounds a little scary, teaching machines how to dig deeper into our lives, but i took the survey, and enjoyed it.
I’m wondering if any of my billions of daily readers recieved a similar email, and if they took the poll?
Today is going to be a great day, even by Cayman standards! Wish I didn’t have to work, but still, there’ll be a beach lunch!
I got up at the usual time, but I’ve been waiting till it got light enough to see to type. So far, I can’t tell that the days are getting longer. Soon though.
I got a new keyboard/case for my tablet. I really like it!
It’s a whole new tablet now! I had my friend from the Navy bring it down when he came. He’s still here, and has been enjoying the beach while I’ve been working.
Well, I have to get readdy to go to work, so HAVE A GREAT DAY!
Temporarily. I switched a menu setting, and now the menu I need is gone and I have to figure how to get it back!
Oh, by the way, I got a new tablet. An ASUS ZenPad. So far it’s pretty good. Bu I wasted a lot of time this morning and now I’m running late.
So Have a good day!
I’ve had my Nexus 7 with bluetooth keyboard for over two years and it’s been great! But I think it’s time to start thinking of an upgrade.
Asus made the Nexus 7, and I’m pretty sold on their new flagship, the ZenPad 8. It hasn’t come out yet.
I also really really love the Sharkk Keyboard, custom built for the Nexus 7. I wish I could get one for the ZenPad 8, but nothing is available yet, and I’m not sure it will be. A keyboard has become a necessity for me.
The ZenPad spec sheet looks great, 64 gig of storage, plus a SD card slot, 4 gig of RAM (I’ve only ever seen 1 or 2 gig of RAM in any tablet) and a quad core processor. Sounds fantastic! The only thing missing is a SIM card for 4G connectivity.
So what do you think? I need a good keyboard/case to go with it, that’s all.
I heard about this on the BBC this morning. Dead drops
‘Dead Drops’ is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. USB flash drives are embedded into walls, buildings and curbs accessible to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop contains a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is open to participation.
I might give this a try, I don’t think it will ever get too popular, but I have some old thumb drives, 5 minute epoxy, and might give ‘er a go! You could do it with your phone and an OTG cable and you wouldn’t have to carry your laptop..
Hump day of another twisted, weird week.
It really bugs me when updates to your favorite app ruins it. On my device(s), I have a “Never Update” list, because the update ruins the app.
On top there is ES File Explorer. It’s similar to “My Computer” on Windows. But it has/had other features. Like the ability to back up an app and save it as an APK file on your drive. This feature is the main reason the apps ruined by updates aren’t uninstalled. If I hate the update, I can install the old version from my backup.
The latest version of ES File Explorer take this feature out of the app. Degraded the app considerably.
Spite and Malice is a card game I really enjoy, the newer version, year or two ago, added all these fancy graphics and perfume and glitter that I didn’t like. This was before ES backup was available, so I emailed the Spite and Malice developer complaining and was emailed the old version. That was very nice. I am a truly loyal fan because of that.
UC Browser isn’t that great. Memory warnings come up when you use it for a while, Their newest update wants to add “identity” to the permissions, that seems to be the purpose of the update.. My answer is “Why?” UC Browser was on my boycott list for years after an update put what I thought was spyware links on my machine. I was using Dolphin Browser for a long time. I’m thinking about switching back.
That’s about it for today. It’s already Friday in New Zealand!
